EV Purchasing Collaborative

In 2018, Climate Mayors launched an EV Purchasing Collaborative which has expanded from city governments to include county governments, transit agencies, port authorities, colleges and universities. Collectively, we have committed to purchasing over 4,000 EVs. The Collaborative is an unprecedented cooperation of Climate Mayors cities to leverage their collective buying power and accelerate the conversion of municipal fleets to electric—sending a powerful signal to the global car market and helping America to maintain its commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement.

#Electrify50

In 2024, the coalition of 350 Climate Mayors commit to collectively electrify at least 50% of municipal fleets* by 2030 while increasing electric vehicle (EV) chargers by at least 500% by 2035. At least 40% of the charging infrastructure will benefit disadvantaged communities. This is a pivotal move to support the Biden-Harris Administration’s goal to make 50% of all new vehicle sales electric by 2030.

The commitment builds on Climate Mayors’ longstanding commitment to local climate action and advancing accessibility to EVs and EV charging stations in U.S. cities.

*For this commitment municipal fleets include light and medium-duty vehicles owned and operated by the municipal government. Climate Mayors are committed to electrifying heavy duty vehicles over time as technology improves
